Anthropic Files for IPO, Revealing $16.3 Billion in First-Half Revenue

Anthropic has publicly filed its S-1 prospectus for an initial public offering, giving the first detailed look at the finances of a frontier AI lab. The company will trade under the ticker “ANT”.

Revenue was $16.3 billion in the six months to 30 June, up about 13 times from $1.3 billion a year earlier, according to reports on the filing. The net loss was $80.7 billion — but most of that comes from non-cash charges, mainly changes in the fair value of convertible notes. Adjusted operating income was $1.6 billion, and the price range for the offering is still blank.

Why it matters

The filing is the clearest evidence yet of how fast the leading AI labs are scaling: revenue growing thirteen-fold in a year, while the headline loss is mostly accounting rather than cash burn. Anyone watching AI valuations, or wondering how the labs will pay for the enormous compute bills behind their models, should read the numbers closely. The offering will also test whether public markets are willing to value an AI lab on growth rather than profit.
